No rule could save the Baldwinsville wrestling team this time around.
Having benefited from a rules violation that resulted in a win over West Genesee on Dec. 12, the Bees traveled to Liverpool last Wednesday night and did not have the same outcome, falling 47-30 to the Warriors.
Ultimately, the deciding factor was not on the mat, where B’ville earned more points. It was the fact that the Bees had less than a full roster and had to forfeit in four weight classes, adding up to 24 points for Liverpool.
Three of those forfeits came early in the match, right after Nate Hahn, at 145 pounds, got B’ville on the board in a tense battle with the Warriors’ Dom Ianno, Hahn pulling out a 3-1 decision.
At 182 pounds, Dom Sposato dominated against Ron Cyr, not quite getting a technical fall, but prevailing 12-0 as Luke Eberl (195 pounds) followed with a similar effort in a 14-2 win over Josh Gatewood
Another surge brought B’ville even at 30-30, beginning when Billy Loadwick (285 pounds) pinned Izayiah Haynes with 14 seconds left in their bout.
Aiden Cali, at 99 pounds, started it with a pin over Hayley Delia, Mason Clark (106 pounds) shut out Matt Spoto 8-0 and Max Naples (113 pounds) claimed a narrow 4-3 decision over Rocco DeGiormo.
However, Liverpool knew it would get a forfeit at 120 pounds, and won each of the last two bouts, too, to claim the match, capping it when Charlie Tran (132 pounds) got a technical fall over Jaden Prince.
