Even with a small roster, the Baldwinsville girls swim team has given all-out efforts every time it has competed in the pool, which it did twice more in the first week of October.
The Bees went to Mexico last Tuesday night and had Ashley Konz win a pair of races, even though B’ville lost 103-67 to the Tigers.
The 50-yard freestyle had Konz produce a time of 27.62 seconds, ahead of Mexico’s Riley Baxter (28.17). Later in the meet, in the 100 backstroke, Konz won in 1:06.31, well clear of the Tigers’ Reatha Van Holtz (1:10.09) and the field.
Clare Burke was twice a runner-up, going 2:12.71 in the 200 freestyle as Carolyn Zedack (2:07.69) won for Mexico. Burke also had a time of 5:56.07 in the 500 freestyle.
Kali Sacco, who was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:28.62, paired with Konz, Burke and Grace Skapura to go 1:50.52 in the 200 freestyle relay, just behind the Tigers’ 1:49.45.
Skapura also was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.06, with Sydney Lawton (1:20.08) taking it for Mexico. B’ville will have meets against Syracuse City and Cicero-North Syracuse this week.
With its Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division regular-season slate complete, the Baldwinsville cross country teams mostly rested and practiced in the first week of October.
However, some of the boys Bees would go to last Saturday’s Tully Invitational, where it finished fourth in the team standings behind Fayetteville-Manlius, Fulton and Horseheads.
Joe Licamelli led B’ville as the senior made his way to 12th place in 18 minutes, 35.3 seconds, the individual title claimed by Maine-Endwell’s Parker Stokes in 16:45.6.
Fellow senior Aaron Sprague got 18th place in 18:53.5, while Justin Chemento got 28th place in 19:33.6. Spencer Randolph, in 19:38.3, edged out Trevor Best (19:44.6) for 30th place. Anthony Delvecchio was 36th in 19:55.8 and Jacob Delvecchio (20:01.9) was 39th.
Each of the top B’ville runners will see action again this weekend when they go to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx for the Manhattan Invitational.
