After many ups and downs in September, the Westhill boys soccer team went to Whitesboro’s tournament as the month came to a conclusion.
In the opening round, Westhill beat Clinton 3-0, an impressive effort where it led 2-0 by halftime and kept going, Bo BenYehuda getting a goal and assist as Adam Herne and Philip Bogan also converted. Mack Etoll and Braden Krzykowski earned assists.
A day later, in the final against host Whitesboro, it ended 1-1, both goals coming in the second half of regulation.
Reilly Sizing scored for Westhill, Krzykowski earning the assist, while Koudi Bashir got Whitesboro’s goal, though Liam Robb turned back everything else and finished the game with 11 saves.
Back home to meet Phoenix on Tuesday, Westhill slammed the Firebirds 8-0, netting seven goals in the first half alone as Sizing and Krzykowski both would find the net twice.
David McPeak had a goal and assist, with Ryan Rolince getting two assists. Nick Rosati, Justin Ristoff and Nate King netted single goals as Etoll, Philip Zollo and Adam Robinson had one assist apiece.
Against Homer on Thursday night, Westhill got another shutout, the 4-0 win featuring two more goals from Krzykowski as Zollo and Bolesh also had goals. Assists went to Zollo, Ristoff and Sizing.
In a non-league game Friday against visiting Salmon River (its fifth game in seven days), Westhill again prevailed, this time by a 6-0 margin as Etoll earned a three-goal hat trick, with Krzykowski again putting up two goals and Jack Grooms adding a goal.
Marcellus roared back to form last Tuesday in a 6-0 romp over Homer, largely due to the work of David Bosak, who had a three-goal hat trick and earned a pair of assists.
Lukas Stasyuk and Ryan Lundrigan both finished with one goal and one assist as Pat Morocco also scored. Matt Mathieson got credit for an assist.
Jordan-Elbridge took a 7-0 defeat to CBA last Tuesday night, with Keegan Ferris making 25 saves for the Eagles as Ben Vlassis led the Brothers with three goals and Matt Potenza got three assists.
Then J-E faced Marcellus on Friday, with the Mustangs blanking the Eagles 4-0 as Brett Beal scored twice. Single goals went to Bosak and Lundrigan as Tristan Jarvi, Bryce Kelly, Tighe Powell and Andrew Fragnito earned assists.
In Saturday’s action, Marcellus turned away state Class C no. 11-ranked Bishop Grimes 3-2, helped by Bosak’s pair of goals as Hugh White also converted. This overcame 12 saves by Cobras goalie Ethan Fritz.
After completing a rare regular-season sweep of Fayetteville-Manlius at Swan Pond on Sept. 28, West Genesee let down back home in last Monday night’s 3-0 loss to Henninger.
The Wildcats had plenty of good opportunities throughout the night, but none of its 10 shots got past Black Knights goalie Lubenda Echeni. Tite Botame had two of Henninger’s goals and Dawt Cung had the other.
Now WG hoped that Baldwinsville, on Wednesday night, was looking ahead to its Friday match at Liverpool, but that was not the case as the Bees won 4-0 to recapture first place in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division.
A steady Bees attack scored twice in each half, and the four goals came from four different players – Josh Price, Michael Allen, Jason Hahn and Stephen Foertch. Bolton finished with five saves.
WG met Cicero-North Syracuse on Friday and took a 4-1 defeat to the Northstars. Washo’s goal prevented a shutout, but the Northstars broke away in the second half as four different players scored, led by Elyas Alad, who had one goal and one assist.
Bishop Ludden did not get any state-rankings recognition after it shocked unbeaten, state Class D no. 2-ranked Fabius-Pompey on Sept. 27, likely because it lost the next day to Holy Cross Academy.
However, the Gaelic Knights repeated its OT magic against Cato-Meridian last Monday, again winning 1-0 when, this time, Liam Casey netted the game-winner. Prior to that, Blue Devils goalie Griffin White had made 16 saves, while Josh Bianchi had 10 saves of his own.
Having enough of this drama, Ludden jumped all over Binghamton Seton Catholic Thursday with a quartet of first-half goals on the way to beating the Saints 5-1.
Connor Catalano led the way, converting twice, while Casey, Antonio Scutari and Michael Gaughan each had one goal and one assist.
