The combined gymnastics team encompassing Jamesville-DeWitt and Fayetteville-Manlius took on East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool in last Tuesday’s season opener.
J-D/F-M prevailed 137.5-132.8, even though ESM/Liverpool’s Ashlyn Fuller led the all-around standings. Fuller finished with 35.6 points, earning 9.0 on uneven bars and floor exercise, plus 8.9 on the vault.
Rylee Fishkin’s 35.2 points topped J-D/F-M gymnasts as she won the uneven bars with a 9.2 routine and added a 9.0 on the floor. Taylor Fishkin’s 34.9 points featured a 9.4 floor routine, the best for any individual on any apparatus.
Rachel McKean won the beam with a 9.2 as Sarah Hills earned a 9.0. Devin Myers would have a first-place vault of 9.2.
On Friday night, J-D/F-M took on New Hartford, and lost 144.2-139.2 to the Spartans, who were led by Miranda Smith’s 37.6 all-around points that included a 9.8 floor routine and 9.45 vault.
Taylor Fishkin offered a strong challenge to Smith on uneven bars, scoring 9.55, but Smith still won with 9.65 as Rylee Fishkin got 8.9. Meanwhile, Taylor Fishkin finished with a 9.0 on the beam, trailing only the 9.2 from the Spartans’ Madelyn Massoud.
