No one seems able to keep up with the Fayetteville-Manlius girls golf team as it continues to set the pace in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division.
The Hornets kept it going in last Monday’s match against a strong Liverpool side, prevailing 171-198 by getting the low two individual rounds from Bailey Wallace and Maggie Bonomo.
Over nine holes at Green Lakes, Wallace shot a 39, with Bonomo contributing a 41, each of them ahead of the 42s from Liverpool’s top sister duo of Mia and Nataly Avotins. Then help came from Nancy Loh, who shot 43, and Paige Freyer, who had a 47.
In Tuesday’s 174-255 win over Cicero-North Syracuse’s Green team, Bonomo again shot 41, just ahead of Freyer, who improved to a 42 as Grace Perry got a 43 and Loh contributed a 48, matched by Elly Hulslander.
Then F-M went to Timber Banks Wednesday and continued to dominate, beating Baldwinsville 174-218 as Fowler led her side with a 41, well clear of the 48 that the Bees’ Colleen Vredenburg shot and Loh matched, with Justine Burness getting a 42. Bonomo had a 43, with Wallace and Freyer both shooting 50.
In its fourth match in as many days, F-M put away East Syracuse Minoa Orange 164-262 at Arrowhead, breaking the team record at that venue by 19 shots as Bonomo charged to a 34. Freyer had a 42, with Hulslander and Burness each posting 44 ahead of Wallace (46) and Ashley Carter (49).
ESM’s Blue team claimed a 197-203 decision over Jamesville-DeWitt at the start of the week. The Spartans overcame a 37 from the Red Rams’ Lena Jones by having Erica Garm shoot 45, with Hannah Johnson getting a 46. Carley Sloan had a 51 and Shannon Marcy added a 55.
Far back of Jones, J-D got a 54 from Kelli Palumbo and a 55 from Sophia Ferris, with Tracey Edson and Eden Shimons each shooting 57 J-D did beat ESM Orange’s total of 247 Reiley Murphy had ESM Orange’s low total of 60.
Before that, ESM Blue faced Auburn last Monday at Arrowhead and fell to the Maroons 184-219.
Garm had a 53 for the Spartans, with Bailey Murphy and Helaina Scolaro each posting 55 ahead of Sloan (56) and Johnson (57). Auburn’s Lindsay May shot a season-best 32.
After beating J-D, ESM Blue won again Wednesday, edging Oswego 195-203 as ESM Orange shot 249. Johnson’s 43 was five shots ahead of the Buccaneers’ low rounds by Hailey Furlong and Danielle DelConte, with Garm also getting a 48.
At Westvale Thursday, ESM Blue dropped a close 172-176 decision to West Genesee, with Garm and Johnson each shooting 42, just behind the 39s from Wildcats Mikaela Riley and Hannah Kirk.
J-D closed out its week Friday with a 186-209 defeat to C-NS Blue at Northern Pines. Jones shot a 46, well ahead of the 54 from Eden Shiomos as Ferris and Kelli Palumbo both shot 55.
Christian Brothers Academy and Bishop Grimes faced each other on May 5, the Brothers prevailing 210-215. In the race for individual honors, the Brothers’ Meghan McKeen and the Cobras’ Olivia Minor tied with matching rounds of 44.
A 53 by Isabella Meade and a 54 by Aubrey Mills helped CBA go in front, with Annie Kilmartin adding a 59. On Grimes’ side, Brina Deppoliti had a 54 as Raquel McDonald (58) was one shot ahead of Maria Naylor (59). Abby Fletcher finished with a 61.
A rematch five days later at Drumlins went 206-247 in CBA’s favor. McKeen shot a 39, two shots ahead of Minor’s 41, helped by Elizabeth Lucas shooting a 53, with Kilmartin and Isabella Meade both shooting 57. Deppoliti had a 61 for the Cobras.
In between this, there was lots of action. Both teams lost their next matches on Monday, CBA falling to Westhill 193-203 at Camillus Country Club and Grimes taking a 212-238 defeat to Marcellus.
CBA lost despite a 42 from McKeen,. Kilmartin and Lucas shot 55, but they trailed the Warriors’ trio of Madeliene Jones (42), Catherine Dadey (47) and Angela Vigliotti (49), and Katie Vaughan matched it, one ahead of the Brothers’ Paige Snyder.
At Tuscarora, Grimes had Minor finish with a 46, topping every individual except Mary Colella, who led Marcellus with a 44.
During Tuesday’s three-team match at Skaneateles, CBA shot 221, beating Chittenango (229), but behind the host Lakers’ total of 195. McKeen did shoot a 47 to tie Skaneateles’ Jenna Fields for individual honors as Paige Snyder got a 54.
On Tuesday, Grimes claimed a 242-243 victory over Cazenovia, largely because Minor, shooting a 43, was 11 shots better than the Lakers’ Sophie Clancy. Deppoliti contributed a 63.
Back home at the Links at Erie Village, Grimes lost Wednesday to Westhill 203-240, though Minor had a 47, beating every individual except the Warriors’ Catherine Dadey, who had a 47. McDonald (63) beat out Naylor (64) and Alana Mase (66).
