The North Syracuse Village Board of Trustees kept its April 12 meeting relatively short and sweet. Read on for highlights from the meeting:
• Food trucks: The village has approved changes to the fee schedule for food trucks operating in the village. Food truck operators now can apply for a license for $200 per year, or a three-day permit for $25. There is no renewal fee. Previously, food trucks could obtain a 120-day license for $200 with a $15 renewal fee.
• Budget: A public hearing for the 2018-19 budget will be held at 4:28 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the North Syracuse Community Center, located at 700 South Bay Road.
• Grants and projects: The village has modified its Community Development Block Grant application to focus on replacing sidewalks on Church Street. The village was going to apply for the funds to repair sidewalks on Route 11, but the state will be replacing those sidewalks in the future.
The village also is applying for a grant from AARP. Village Engineer Amy Franco said the application is due May 15 and projects must go toward improving a public space for seniors. If North Syracuse receives the grant, the village will build a gazebo near senior housing on South Main Street.
Arbor Day celebration is April 27
The village of North Syracuse will hold its annual Arbor Day celebration at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, at 648 Centerville Place (in front of the Masonic Center between Main Street and South Bay Road). Mayor Gary Butterfield will read a proclamation, and this year’s Crimson King Maple will be dedicated to the late Deputy Mayor Fred Fergerson.
This marks the 30th annual Arbor Day celebration in North Syracuse, and the village’s 29th year of recognition as a Tree City by the National Arbor Day Foundation with presentation by DEC Forester John Clancy.
Instrumentalist Lee Turner will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” on a keyed bugle and other music.
