For the first large-scale track and field meet of the Section III season, Cicero-North Syracuse brought more than a dozen other sides to Bragman Stadium last Saturday for the C-NS relays, including Liverpool.
With 77 points, the boys Northstars were just behind Rush-Henrietta’s winning total of 81.7 points, with the Warriors fifth as it got 35 points. The C-NS girls had 74 points and were also runner-up to R-H (90 points) as Liverpool got sixth place with 36 points.
C-NS’s Joe Williams went 15.04 seconds to win the 110 high hurdles as he and Jason Hughes took the team event with 32.23 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of the field.
Ryan Williams, in 59.20 seconds, edged Joe Williams (59.42) as part of a 1-2 effort in the 400-meter hurdles, but Joe Williams countered by claiming the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 7 inches, pairing with Isaiah Wright to take team honors with 38’1”.
Ryan Williams, Calvin Garnes, Troy Johnson and Aidan Dietz won the 4×400 in 3:39.94 to R-H’s 3:41.95, while Liverpool settled for sixth place in 3:54.67.
David Ware and John Perperian paced C-NS as it was second (19:10.34) to Beaver River (19:01.90) in the mile relay. Hughes and Judah Bailey cleared 11’3” between them in the high jump, only behind Baldwinsville’s 11’6” as Hughes topped 9’6” in the pole vault.
C-NS was fourth in the 4×100 as Perperian, Nathan Poirier, Michael McBride and Evan Breitbeck were second in the 4×800 in 8:42.17 to Baldwinsville’s winning 8:38.96.
Where Liverpool did beat C-NS was in the sprint medley relay. The Warriors’ quartet of Conor Fahy, Talmari Turner, Ryan Dewan and Nathan Reeves went 3:46.43 to top a field where the Northstars, in 3:51.84, settled for third place.
James Gaffney won the individual pole vault, clearing 12 feet. Jacob Barnes was second in the individual shot put with a toss of 124’2” though that stood well back of R-H’s Jake McPherson, who won with 164’4”. Alex Ruston and Jake Pento were third in the triple jump, going 73’6” as C-NS (72’ ½”) was fifth.
Moving to the girls side, C-NS’s Sierra Davis won the individual long jump by going 16’3 ½” as she and Shayla Webb took team honors with total leaps of 31’2 ½”.
Then Davis and Webb went 1-2 in the triple jump, Davis prevailing with a best leap of 35’3” and Webb going 34’5 ¼” as Brooke Blaisdell went 33’7” for fourth place.
Webb, Davis, Julianna Hutt and Amanda Reilly were second in the 4×100 in 53.44 seconds to R-H’s meet-record 49.43 seconds. Sarah Davis, Maria Marullo, Abbee Norris and Allison Newton finished second in the 4×800 in 10:27.59.
Mia Pestle, with her time of 4:51.73, helped C-NS to second place in the 1,500-meter relay in 20:33.30 behind West Genesee’s 20:06.86 and helped Hutt, Reilly and Ashlyn Slate get second (4:28.25) in the sprint medley.
Savannah Kuhr and Lexi Gaetz were third in the 100 hurdles in a combined 34.60 seconds. Mia Falgiatano, Danyka Donegan, Asia Couillard and Nikki Hemingway were third in the 4×400 in 4:47.59, with Liverpool seventh. Kuhr and Leah Bisgrove were fourth in the 400 hurdles.
Liverpool had Imani Sinclair win the shot put with an individual toss of 34’6” and pair with Sarah Lavalley to take the team event in 63’11” as C-NS had Kierrah Butler and Julie Phillips third with 59’9”.
As if that wasn’t enough, Lavalley’s discus throw of 128’3” smashed the rest of the field, with no other throw better than the 90’11” from Baldwinsville’s Danielle Marsell. Lavalley and Evelyn Lemanche took the team event with 192’3”.
Amina Sinclair and Sophia Recuparo were second in the high jump, clearing 9 feet total. Sinclair, Anne Gullo, Alencia Daoust and Riley Norris were fifth in the 4×100 in 54.31 seconds, with the Warriors also fifth in the sprint medley in 5:06.04. Kali Hayes and Lauren Fradette grabbed fourth place in the 100 hurdles in 35.44 seconds.
