Nine Christian Brothers Academy students recently earned Scholastic Arts Awards. They include gold key recipients Lydia Hill and Jerry Xu, and silver key recipients Lucy Person and Sara Vertino. Receiving honorable mention were Abby Benware, Jessica Fellows, Lily George, Grace Glowaki and Sara Vertino.
The competition received 5,560 pieces of artwork from 90 schools. There were 1,185 winners meaning that each of CBA’s student winners were in the top 25 percent of all of the submitted works.
In addition, junior Sara Vertino is a member of the inaugural Everson Teen Arts Council which holds weekly meetings with the staff at the Everson Museum to learn more about the field of fine arts. Vertino has assisted in curating their upcoming art show titled “Ripple Effect: Altering the Face of Nature.”
Opening night for the Teen Arts Council’s first exhibit will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16.
Each of the award-winning pieces of artwork are featured at an exhibit at Onondaga Community College’s Whitney Applied Technology Center through March 2. CBA’s high school visual arts students visited the exhibit on Jan. 30.
