Things did not quite line up for the Fayetteville-Manlius girls indoor track and field team during last Saturday’s morning session of the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
With 109 points, the Hornets finished second to Baldwinsville, who won with 146.33 points. F-M’s boys had 74 points for a third-place finish behind B’ville and West Genesee.
In the 3,000-meter run, Sophie Ryan was second (9:55.43) and Phoebe White third (10:20.36) behind Tully star Brooke Rauber (9:50.76), while Palmer Madsen was second in the 1,000-meter run in 3:12.31.
It was the same in the 1,500-meter run, with Alex Villalba second in 4:59.05 and Grace Kaercher third in 5:01.28 behind South Lewis’ Hali Ielfield, who won in 4:46.82.
But White did win the 600-meter run, going 1:40.78 to beat out WG’s Carly Benson (1:41.15), who had prevailed in the 1,000. And in the 4×800 relay, White, Madsen, Ryan and Susan Bansbach pulled away to win in 9:50.42.
Cady Barns won the long jump, going 17 feet ¼ inch, and was second (7.74 seconds) to Corcoran’s Ka’Nijah McLaurin (7.67) in the 55-meter dash, Barns also getting fourth place in the 300-meter dash in 43.95 seconds. \
Gwen Shepardson got second place in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.03 seconds as Shepardson, Chloe Bullough, Samantha Pynn and Fiona Mejico were third in the 4×400 relay in 4:31.23. Mejico, Pynn, Phoebe Lindabury and Kate Walters were fourth in the 4×200 relay as Pynn took seventh in the long jump.
F-M’s boys team had Garrett Brennan win the 3,200-meter run in 9:41.15, more than 14 seconds ahead of the field. Then Geoff Howles, in 4:34.38, joined Matt Tripp (4:38.88) for a 1-2 finish in the mile.
Howles, Brennan, Jack Duncanson and Nolan Chiles dominated the 4×800, winning in 8:30.89, the only time under nine minutes. John Nethercott went 38.84 seconds in the 300 sprint, second to West Genesee’s Esisas Brumfield (38.35).
Armando Adrian, John Meskos, Casey Coleman and John Nethercott were second in the 4×400 in 3:45.31. Aaron Costanza had a third-place triple jump of 37’2”, with Coleman seventh.
Chiles took fourth place in the 600 in 1:31 flat as Duncason finished eighth. Ryan Serp was sixth in the 55 hurdles and eighth in the long jump.
East Syracuse Minoa was also in the morning session, scoring 25 points on the girls side and 12 points on the boys side. The Spartans’ Mia Montgomery was victorious in the triple jump, going 34’11” as F-M’s Isabel Zuber was fourth (32’7 ¾”) and Shepardson fifth
Jennah Ferrari, clearing 4’10”, was fifth in the high jump as Erica Garm was seventh in the pole vault. Montgomery was sixth and Lashae Benjamin eighth in the 55 sprint. Kassandra Burr was eighth in the 1,000 as the Spartans got seventh place in the 4×800.
The ESM boys were led by Nick Berg, who in the 1,000 went 2:46.17 to grab second place behind B’ville’s Connor McManus (2:41.77) as F-M’s Sam Otis was seventh. The Spartans had a fifth-place finish in the 4×400 in 4:00.33.
For Jamesville-DeWitt, the big news came away from the Kirschenheiter meet. At Yale University, J-D’s 4×200 relay team of Haberle Conlon, Mike Potamianos, Joey Armenta and Murad Amurlayev finished in 1:32.89, breaking a school record that had stood for 57 years.
Meanwhile, Alan Gao, Joe DiDomenico, Nick Mannion and Sam Glisson finished third in the 4×800 relay. In the girls 4×400, J-D’s Evan Wisniewski, Katie Lutz, Ana Dieroff and Denise Yaeger had a second-place finish.
Back home, in the afternoon session at SRC Arena, J-D’s girls picked up 41 points, including a win from Grace Bridge in the 600 as she posted 1:44.91 to beat the field by more than four seconds.
Marianah Williams was fourth in the shot put, heaving it 30’9”. Amber Hamernik had a fourth-place long jump of 15’2 ½”.
The Rams were fifth in the 4×400, fifth in the 4×800 and seventh in the 4×200 as Ayla Erwin was fifth in the 1,500 and Kathryn Sizing was seventh in the 1,000. Monica Hernandez-Olivera was seventh in the 55 hurdles and seventh in the high jump.
Christian Brothers Academy had Olivia Morganti win the girls 1,000 in 3:03.98, edging Liverpool’s Windsor Ardner (3:04.63) for the top spot. That accounted for 10 of the Brothers’ 15 points, with Bri Pucci taking fourth place in the 1,500. Lewes Kunda was fifth in the boys 55 sprint, with Zach Medicis fifth in the mile.
