For the West Genesee boys swim team, the main event last week was Saturday’s trip to Nottingham High School for the inaugural Salt City Athletic Conference championships.
In the SCAC diving competition, Justin Byrne would take third place with 404.30 points, trailing only the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA tandem of Lucas Dekaney (435.70 points) and Ryan Evans (432.20 points).
Not far behind Byrne, Adriel Schoek finished fifth, earning 325.90 points, while Parker McIlroy made it to ninth place with 283.00 points.
Of the three relays, WG did best in the finale, the 400 freestyle relay, where Ryan McMahon, Tiernan Guy, Cameron Chao and Matt Shoults got fourth place in 3:44.95.
In the 100 butterfly, Shoults made it to fourth place in a time of 1:01.27. Shoults also was sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.08. Ryan McMahon got ninth place in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.66.
Shoults, Keegan Scharoun, Zac Zoanetti and Alex Shuron were seventh in the 200 medley relay in 1:50.19, with Schauron, Shuron, Guy and Connor Macko eighth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.11.
Mike Whitney needed 5:56.60 to finish ninth in the 500 freestyle. Chao was 11th in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.08, with Shuron 15th in the 50 freestyle and Macko 15th in the 100 freestyle.
All of this followed last Thursday’s home meet against Fulton, where WG improved to 7-2 on the season, the Wildcats cruising to a 99-84 victory over the Red Raiders.
Shoults, McMahon and Shuron each won two races. Shoults, in 24.17 seconds, beat Keagan Scharoun (25.09) in the 50 freestyle before going 52.58 seconds to win the 100 freestyle.
McMahon would beat the field in the 200 IM in 2:14.13, and then claim the 500 freestyle in 5:21.22, more than half a minute ahead of the field.
As for Shuron, he needed 2:01.62 to prevail in the 200 freestyle, a prelude to a 100 butterfly victory in 1:01.97 as Byrne amassed 254.85 points in diving to lead a top-three sweep with Schoeck (194.45 points) and McIlroy (165.40 points).
Schauron went 1:03.85 in the 100 backstroke and Zoanetti was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.86. McMahon, Guy, Whitney and Jack McManus went 1:49.70 in the 200 medley relay as Shoults, Shuron and McMahon joined Matt Shields in swimming the 400 freestyle relay in 3:47.22.
