At the Library: Introducing on-demand film streaming with kanopy
By Deanna King
Assistant Library Director
It’s a new year and the Skaneateles Library has a new resource to offer.
The on-demand film streaming service Kanopy is now available for free to all Skaneateles Library cardholders. Skaneateles Library is excited to be the first in the Onondaga County Public Library system to offer Kanopy to library users.
Offering what the New York Times calls a “garden of cinematic delights,” Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and foreign films. More titles are being added every month, so there is always new content to enjoy. Kanopy’s vast collections include films by Kino Lorber, Music Box Films, Samuel Goldwyn, The Orchard, The Great Courses, PBS and thousands of independent filmmakers. Each user can have up to four plays every month – all you need is an email address and your library card.
Kanopy is a great service because it allows users to stream films from many different platforms. You can watch films on Kanopy from a computer or from your television or mobile device through the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku. Don’t have any of these devices? The Skaneateles Library offers a Roku which is available to be checked-out for library users to stream movies on home TVs.
Get started today by going to skaneateleslibrary.kanopy.com, or just look for the Kanopy link on the library’s website.
The library is also offering classes on Kanopy to help get you signed-up and ready to go!
