Even as the temperatures dipped close to zero degrees last week and snows curtailed the schedules, the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team continued to heat up.
The Red Rams were supposed to face Oswego last Tuesday night, and though weather postponed the meet until Thursday, the brief delay did nothing to slow J-D/CBA down as it defeated the Buccaneers 90-65 to improve to 5-0 on the season.
One of the featured attractions was a diving competition that came down to the final round. Ultimately, Lucas Dekaney, with a score of 235.80 points, edged Ryan Evans (234.65) by just 1.15 points as Evan Blust finished fourth.
Before that, the Rams had won four straight races, starting with the 200-yard medley relay, where Kaleel Boykins, Emmanuel Ignacio, Owen Farchione and Nick Lorenzo prevailed in one minute, 59.24 seconds.
Boykins went from there to taking the 50 freestyle, edging Colby Porter, 26.21 seconds to 27.01, as Ignacio finished third. Conlan Rourke won the 200 freestyle, holding off Nathan Chen, 2:04.40 to 2:04.60, as Spencer Schultz took the 200 individual medley in 2:08.90.
After the diving was done, Chen rolled to first place in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.81, with Porter second. Chris Bushnell then pushed through the 100 freestyle in 50.75 seconds as Farchione won the 500 freestyle in 5:53.25.
In a fast 100 backstroke, Bushnell posted 56.45 seconds to best Farchione’s 58.63 as Schultz swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.03. Schultz, Rourke, Lorenzo and Liam Kaplan won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.99.
J-D swam again just 24 hours later against Cicero-North Syracuse at the Le Moyne College pool, but the quick turnaround did little to hurt the Red Rams as it got a 99-84 victory over the Northstars.
Bushnell twice was victorious, tearing through the 200 freestyle in 1:52.73 and dominating the 100 backstroke with a swift time of 55.72 seconds.
Schultz also got a pair of titles, covering the 100 butterfly in 55.06 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.69. He also teamed with Farchione, Rourke and Mike Spizuoco to win the 200 medley relay in 1:50.75.
Evans got the best of the diving competition here, with 258.95 points to Dekaney’s 235.40 points, with Blust in third place. Rourke narrowly lost the 500 freestyle in 5:56.70 to the 5:56.42 from C-NS’s Logan Petralia.
Fayetteville-Manlius (1-3) had its meet with Weedsport postponed last Wednesday night, and the Hornets are scheduled to go to Auburn this week before hitting the holiday break.
