Each of the area’s high school bowling teams saw their schedules curtailed by winter weather that postponed most varsity sports contests last Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.
It had cleared out by Thursday, though, and East Syracuse Minoa ventured to Solvay Recreation Alleys, where it put together a pair of 3-0 shutouts over West Genesee.
In the girls match, Haley Youker again set the pace for ESM, her 553 series augmented by a high game of 211.Ermily Petrowski had a 492 series (188 high game) as Elizabeth D’Agostino had a 406 set. Gina Neri led WG with a 480 series and 197 high game.
Moving to the boys match, ESM’s Sean Timmons shot a high game of 217, with Chris Bayly getting a 188 game during his 491 series.
In the early part of the week, Fayetteville-Manlius traveled to Auburn, where it split its match with the Maroons at Falcon Bowl, prevailing 2-1 on the boys side and taking a 3-0 defeat in the girls match.
Kevin Winschel notched 10 strikes for the boys Hornets during a 279 game as part of his 664 series, while John Buonfiglio got a 268 game, his best of the season, on the way to a 639 set.
Jackson Arment added a 552 series as Justin Brooks picked up a 223 high game. On Auburn’s side, T.J. O’Donnell got a 621 series and Ben Morabito added a 576 series.
Shelby Minor shot a 452 series for the F-M girls, the best on her side by 142 pins. Auburn countered with Kaylee Hodson’s superb 655 series that included a 234 high game as Lily Snyder got a 209 game and Amber Pidlypchak had a 506 series.
F-M bowled again on Thursday, at Cortland, with the boys blanking the Purple Tigers 3-0 as Buonfiglio blazed to a 268 game on his way to a 699 series, just behind Cortland’s Michael Davis, who shot a 277 game during his 716 set.
Blanford earned a 669 series (234 high game), with Brooks getting a 202 game in his 549 set. Winschel added a 500 set and Adam Koss a 189 high game,
In the girls match, the Hornets lost 3-0, to Cortland, with Minor again pacing F-M as her three-game total improved to 473, helped by a 184 high game as Rachel Hance had a 431 set. For the Purple Tigers, Taylor Cullip had a 526 series.
On that same day, Bishop Grimes faced Solvay at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, and won the boys match 5-2 as Jordan Newman shot a 514 serie and 211 high game. Michael Reeve added a 205 game as Matt Rogers 210 game led to a 455 set and Matt Vonden Steinen put up a 182 game in his 480 series.
As for the Grimes girls team, it lost to Solvay by that same 5-2 margin, led by Jenny Morabito, whose 374 series was just in front of Raquel McDonald’s 367 set. Bearcats standout Jessica Birdslow had a 554 series.
