The NYCA consortium has hired Cazenovian Steven Miller as the first-ever coordinator of men’s lacrosse officials.
The NYCA consortium includes five Division III athletic conferences comprised of the Liberty League, the Skyline Conference, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and the Empire 8 Athletic Conference.
“I am excited given the opportunity to work with the top Division III lacrosse conferences in the country and train the next generation of lacrosse officials,” Miller said.
Miller has been a collegiate lacrosse official since 1977 and has 32 years of experience as an NCAA tournament official across all three divisions. He has worked 14 quarter-final NCAA tournament games, 15 semi-final games and seven national championship games.
In 1997, he became a professional official in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League and the National Lacrosse League and has served as a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) official since 2001.
Miller currently serves as a National Intercollegiate Lacrosse Officials (NILOA) clinician, is a clinician and observer for USILA lacrosse games and is on the executive board of the college lacrosse officials. He served as chairman, vice chair and past president of the NILOA Officials Committee from 2000-13 and was a board member of U.S. Lacrosse Officials Committee for 15 years.

He is very highly regarded amongst his peers and coaches alike. It’s an important time for the sport of men’s lacrosse and we are confident the officiating services will improve and grow with the conference relationships and Steve’s leadership.”
In addition to his experience at the collegiate and professional level, Miller has international officiating experience, working the Centurion International Game in 1994 and the Eastern European Championships in 1995 and 1996. He also worked the 1998 World Championship and the 2002 19 and under World Championship.
For his outstanding service to the game of lacrosse, Miller was named the NYS Section III Man of the Year, inducted into the Upstate Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2004, received the Central New York Lacrosse Officials Golden Whistle Award in 2008.
Miller graduated from Alfred University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He played for the Saxon lacrosse team, during which he was the captain of the 1972 squad and earned second team All-ECAC defense honors.
