Thanks to the generous support and hospitality of Linda and Brian Osborne, owners of the historic “Hillcrest” Jephson Estate on Ridge Road in Cazenovia (once home to the Davis Baking Powder family), The Haven at Skanda will be holding its second annual Generosity of Love fundraising party at the estate on Saturday, October 28th from 1-4pm. Childcare will be provided at The Haven at Skanda on Mosley Road in Cazenovia, so that parents can enjoy a carefree afternoon at the estate, reconnecting with their own childlike innocence and wonder as they play with Skanda’s miniature donkeys and take a special love-themed tour of the estate.
“The Haven at Skanda is all about loving and protecting the innocence of animals, and finding that innocence and childlike wonder in ourselves again,” says Executive Director Ellen Beckerman. “but parents tend to stand back and let their kids have experiences with animals. So we have created this special event to give parents a chance to step forward, love the animals, and experience that joy and wonder that is still inside each of us … knowing that the kids are having an amazing experience of their own back at the farm.”
In addition to live music, food, and drinks donated by local restaurants and breweries, the event will feature a silent auction of art by some of the area’s most well-known artists, and an enormous selection of hand-made gifts created by Linda Osborne with material donated by Shawn Gilmore of the Route 20 Sofa Company. Linda has designed and created clothing, decorative pillows, jewelry, stuffed animals, and so much more, all available as thank-you gifts for tax-deductible donations to The Haven at Skanda. This is a perfect chance to stock up on one-of-a-kind holiday gifts while donating to a great local cause!
The Haven at Skanda is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization that provides a loving home for rescued horses, rescued farm animals, and endangered species, and provides programs to kids and adults where learning from the innocence, love, and generosity of animals allows us to discover new possibilities. Skanda’s most popular programs include Summer at Skanda, a free, four-week summer anti-bullying program for at-risk youth; Horses for the Holidays equine supply donation drive and cruelty prevention campaign, now in 8 counties throughout CNY and still expanding; the Little Moe 5K Walk/Run for horse rescue; and its continuing program to take in, love, and rehabilitate the region’s most vulnerable rescued animals, in partnership with the ASPCA based in NYC and all regional rescue organizations.
The Haven at Skanda relies on donations in order to continue to serve its community. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law, and go directly to caring for animals in need.
