Though it might not climb back to the top of the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division standings, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue boys golf team is still enjoying a fine regular season.
The Northstars prevailed last Tuesday over the combined Syracuse City team 194-213 at Marcellus Country Club, where Andrew Burns and Andrew Brunozzi each shot 37s for C-NS to tie for individual honors.
Jake Nardozza and Ben Haven both shot 38 to match the low individual round from Syracuse’s Jon Kinane. Carson Carrino had a 40, with Nick Bough shooting a 41, each of them behind Syracuse’s Liam Murphy, who had a 39.
These same two teams met again at Northern Pines a day later, with C-NS winning again 187-219 as Nardozza, with a 36, went to the top of the board, beating out Brendan Villnave and Justin Pellegrino, who each shot 37. Haven had his second straight 38 and Ryan Sisco contributed a 39. Seth Lee paced Syracuse with a 42.
On Thursday afternoon, C-NS Blue faced Liverpool, and the Northstars won 189-208 at Northern Pines, with all five of its top golfers breaking 40.
Pellegrino and Brunozzi both shot 37, which the Warriors’ Spencer Baum matched. But then Nardozza and Sisco each posted 38 and Villnave earned a 39 to beat out the rest of Liverpool’s pack, led by Dylan Husted, who had a 40 ahead of Tyler Leatherwood (43), Brandon Exner and Lukas McIlroy (44 each).
This busy week ended with C-NS Blue taking on Fayetteville-Manlius and upending the Hornets 187-194 at Woodcrest.
Villnave led C-NS Blue with a season-best round of 33, three strokes ahead of AdamButch, who paced F-M with a 36. Kyle Gilroy had a 38, but Brunozzi topped it with a 37 and two others, Nardozza and Carson Carrino, matched that 38. Sisco clinched the victory by shooting a 41.
Before all this, Liverpool may have hoped to catch Baldwinsville last Monday looking ahead to its SCAC Metro first-place showdown with F-M a day later, but that wasn’t the case. The Warriors lost, 194-210, to the Bees, with Baum shooting a 38 at Timber Banks to finish third behind Maxwell Dec (35) and Ben Donohue (36).
Three other B’ville golfers – Trevor Tooke, Ryan Fecco and Ryan Conley – matched the 41 posted by Leatherwood, and Liverpool could not keep up. Exner and Samuel Sgroi each shot 43 as Joe Difulio shot a 45 and Patrick Langlois had a 47 ahead of McIlroy (49) and Jacob Fahey (51).
Liverpool had far more success against C-NS Green on Wednesday afternoon, the Warriors prevailing 197-213 with most of the margin created by the four-under-par 32 registered by Baum, his career-best total.
Dylan Husted added a 39 as Fahey improved to a 42, matching the rounds from Exner and Featherwood, and Brodie Powers earned a 43. Brian Pellegrino led C-NS Green with a 40 as Pat Cuddy gained a 42. Brody Kennedy and Liam Mussi each shot 43 as Cullen Scott posted a 45.
C-NS Green had, earlier in the week, lost, 201-216, to a West Genesee side it beat earlier this season. The Wildcats’ Connor Barry, with a 39, was the only player on either side to break40.
Mussi had a 40, just ahead of Cuddy (41), Pellegrino (42) and Scott (43), but the fifth Northstars golfer, Austin Alberici, could only manage a 50, so the Wildcats stayed in front thanks to a 41 from Lucius Allen, 43s from Dan Benetti and Will Good, plus a 48 from Kevin McDermott.
On Thursday, C-NS Green lost to Baldwinsville, 184-216. Pellegrino had a 40 at Timber Banks, with Mussi getting a 41 to beat out Kennedy (42), Cuddy (44) and Alberici (45), but the Bees proved far too tough as Donohue shot a three-under-par 33 and Fecco added a 34 ahead of Dan Reiser (37) and Trevor Tooke (39).
