The West Genesee girls track and field team could not follow up its big April 19 win over Cicero-North Syracuse, falling 82-58 to Liverpool a week later, but the Wildcats still put up some strong individual efforts against the Warriors and swept the relays, too.
Megan Delia again unleashed a big triple jump of 35 feet 7 ¼ inches, though it was the only field event WG won, as Delia also took the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.1. Emily Young also won twice, taking the 1,500-meter run in 4:55.5 and the 800-meter run in 2:20.8.
Elsewhere, Kendall Dombroske ran the 400-meter dash in 1:01 flat, also helping Mia Mitchell, Amanda Lowther and Elizabeth Morey go 10:06.9 to win the 4×800 relay. Delia, Kelsey Fox, Caitlin Mills and Talia Burris won the 4×100 in 50.8 seconds as Young, Dombroske, Mikeayla DeJesus and Abby Kuppinger claimed the 4×400 in 4:40 flat.
Meanwhile, WG’s boys team also fell to Liverpool 91-50, with three of its four wins coming in field events. Evan Tuthill threw the discus 134’9”, with Griffin Domboske going 39’8 ¾” in the triple jump and Peter Bowman clearing 11 feet in the pole vault. Andrew Berry got the Wildcats’ lone race win when he took the 100 sprint in 11 seconds flat.
Three days before co-hosting its own meet with Skaneateles, the Marcellus girls took on Phoenix in OHSL Liberty division action, and prevailed, 76-65, over the Firebirds, with a well-balanced team effort led by Mary-Catherine Coon.
In the 100 sprint, Coon prevailed in 13.0 seconds over Phoenix’s Emilie Hilliard (13.1 seconds), and while she finished second in the 200 (27.2 seconds), Coon did take first place in the high jump, clearing 4’8”.
Olivia Bird made her way to first place in the 800 in 2:36.9, with Corinne Bandera winning the 400 hurdles in 1:12.3 after finishing second in the 100 hurdles. Liliana Cushman beat the field in the 1,500 in 5:26.5 and helped Bird, Tora Fey and Crystal Silliman win the 4×800 in 11:25.1. Silliman and Carolyn Carlic were second and third, respectively, in the 400 sprint.
Hannah Ryan prevailed in the pole vault, topping 7’6” as Julianna Szczech topped 7 feet. Emma Stuart (74’10”) and Michaela Godbold (69’6”) went 1-2 in the discus, with Stuart also second in the shot put. Sydney French, second in the long jump, had a winning triple jump of 28’10”.
Westhill-Bishop Ludden roared past Chittenango 108-33, with several top individual efforts, including that of Alyssa Holstein, who was first in the 100 hurdles in 16.9 seconds and then took the 400 hurdles in 1:18.9. Rudnik won both the 100 (13.5 seconds) and 200 (28.2 seconds) sprints.
Zoe Fortin also won twice, going 14’11 ½” to claim the long jump and unleashing a top triple jump of 32’3 ½”. Kayla Helfeld threw the shot put 26’3” to win that event as Claire Pullano won the discus, throwing it 64’10 ½”. Haylei Coolican took the 800 in 2:36.8 as Emma Feyerebend cleared 4’6” in the high jump.
Solvay met Institute of Technology Central last Wednesday and prevailed, 84-55, over the Eagles, with Jordyn Willsey taking first place in the 800-meter run (2:50.3) and 1,500-meter run (5:58.9) as Leda Jaquin won the 3,000-meter run and helped the Bearcats take the 4×800 in 13:11.9.
Ashley Bosco claimed the shot put with a toss of 35’8”, while also winning the discus with a throw of 92’1”. Alexa Bagozzi cleared 6’6” to take the pole vault. Zoe Francemone won the 400 sprint in 1:09.6 and Kyra Crossett, second in the 100 hurdles, prevailed in the 400 hurdles in 1:16 flat and helped Francemone and Willsey run the 4×400 in a top time of 4:38.4.
In the boys meet between Solvay and ITC, the Bearcats fell to the Eagles 73-64, but Westhill-Ludden did find success against Chittenango, fighting hard for a 79-62 victory over the Bears.
Owen Hoyne beat Evan Watt, 16.4 seconds to 17.1, in the 110 hurdles, with Tom Howard edging Chittenango’s Nick Stanton, 11.6 seconds to 11.7, in the 100 sprint. Watt won the 400 hurdles in 1:01.7 as Howard took the 200 in 22.9 seconds. Howard, Watt, Connor Schwartz and Ben Zell took the 4×100 in 46.1 seconds.
Sean Corbett started his sweep of the throwing events by heaving the shot put 42’9”, and then he won the discus with a throw of 102’11”. Schwartz had a top triple jump of 38’5 ½”, just ahead of Ben Eassa (38’2 ¼”) as Eassa cleared 5’4 in the high jump andwas second in the long jump (19 feet), with Owen Hoyne third.
Cal Niezabytowski, in 55 seconds flat, was just behind Stanton (54.9) in the 400 sprint, but helped Schwartz, Howard and Hoyne win the 4×400 in 3;41.5. Jake Suddaby was second in the mile in 4:46.4 and Cade VanOrnam was second (2:09.1) in the 800. Dan Washburn (10:48.5) got second place in the 3,200.
Solvay’s track teams would compete Friday at the Lyons Invitational, where Bosco broke a meet record with her shot put throw of 36’2 ¼”and Jordan Devereaux took the boys 400 sprint in 53.14 seconds.
