The town of Van Buren is seeking $50,000 in Community Development Block Grant money to continue drainage improvements in Seneca Knolls next year. At the March 21 town board meeting, Van Buren Town Engineer Jason Hoy reviewed the town’s CDBG application for 2018 and its five-year plan for community development projects.
Hoy said the 2018 project would be the second phase of drainage work on Hosmer Drive in Seneca Knolls. The project entails the installation of closed drainage systems, and minor repairs, milling and asphalt overlay of the existing pavement. The total project cost is $85,000. The town’s share of the cost would be $35,000.
The town board, absent Supervisor Claude Sykes and Councilor Ron Dudzinski, voted unanimously to allow Hoy to submit the CDBG application.
Also at the March 21 meeting, Highway Superintendent Doug Foster commended his employees for their work during Winter Storm Stella.
“I think they did a fantastic job overall with keeping the roads passable,” he said.
Foster also thanked residents for staying off the roads during the storm and expressed his wishes for the swift arrival of spring weather.
“Hopefully we have bright sun and tulips to come,” Foster said.
