On Nov. 17, State Police in Oneida responded to a liquor store in the Village of Morrisville regarding the theft of alcoholic beverages that occurred by way of counterfeit credit card.
According to police, the store was made aware of the fraudulent activity upon receipt of merchant chargebacks advising them that purchases were made at the business by someone using a counterfeit credit card. A copy of the store video surveillance was forwarded to the University Police at Morrisville State College who identified the suspects as Jamaal R. Adams, 21, and Andrew L. Spivey-Harris, 20, both from Brooklyn, N.Y., as the persons using the counterfeit credit card, state police said.
Information provided by bank officials showed the two to have used the account information from a New Jersey resident to conduct some of the transactions at the liquor store as well as a number of other businesses about the Village of Morrisville.
On Dec. 2, Adams and Spivey-Harris were both charged with identity theft in the second degree, a class “E” felony; possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, a class “D” felony and unlawful possession of personal identification information, a class “A” misdemeanor, according to state police. Both were arraigned in the Town of Hamilton Court and remanded to the Madison County Jail on $10,000 cash/$20,000 bond.
The investigation is continuing as both suspects have been found to have used compromised account information from at least five other persons that have yet to be identified, police said.
