A total of 21 boys golfers from Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool would make their way to Radisson Greens on Wednesday morning to take part in the most important 18 holes of the season.
When things were completed at the Section III Class AA tournament, six Northstars, five from C-NS Blue and one from C-NS Green, had earned berths in the sectional state qualifier, to be held in late May at Seven Oaks in Hamilton.
That included Nick Ernestine, who led C-NS Blue with a six-over-par 78 that put him in a tie for sixth place. Two of his teammate, Justin Pellegrino and Brendan Villnave, both shot 80 and tied for 10th place.
C-NS Green’s top finisher, Chase Hurley, matched C-NS Blue’s Noah Pauldine as they both posted 81s to tie for 14th place. By shooting an 82 to tie for 17th place, Logen Field made the cut right on the number.
In the team standings, C-NS Blue, with a 407, finished fourth, a single shot behind West Genesee (406) in third place as Baldwinsville, with something close to a home-course advantage, shot 385 to prevail over Fayetteville-Manlius (397) in second place.
Among other C-NS Blue golfers, Andrew Brunozzi earned an 87, while Chris Ranalli gained a 90 and Nick Bough finished with a 96.
Liverpool, who finished sixth with a team score of 457, saw Spencer Baum and Kenneth Krafft both shoot 88 to lead the Warriors. Brandon Exner had a 90, with Tyler Dorval contributing a 93 as Eli Marris had a 98 and Dante Quilty posted a 103.
C-NS Green had a team total of 425 to grab fifth place, had an 85 from Ryan Sisco, just three shots from the cut line, which tied for 20th place. Carson Carrino and seventh-grader Jake Nardozza both shot 86, just ahead of Ben Haven, who had an 87. Brian Pellegrino and Mike Battaglia both finished with 91.
It was Baldwinsville’s Ryan Fecco winning the individual sectional title, using his local knowledge (he lives near, and works at, Radisson Green), to shoot a one-under-par 71 to beat West Genesee’s Joe Morgan (73) by two shots.
