It would not take too long for the Jamesville-DeWitt girls swim to face a major test.
On Tuesday night, the Red Rams hosted New Hartford, a clash of the two top sides in Class B, and the Red Rams went there with some momentum after opening its season last Wednesday by going to West Genesee and defeating the Wildcats 100-83.
Four J-D swimmers who made it to the 2015 state championship meet are back – Marissa Potamianos, Amelia Hesler, Kate Salvo and Alexis Phillips – and each would find a role while competing at WG’s revamped pool.
Potamianos went 1:04.39 in the 100 butterfly to win that race over the Wildcat’s Hannah Jasinsk, who was second in 1:07.34. Salvo was part of a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 freestyle, second in 27.36 seconds to Emma Galletta (26.85 seconds) as Sawyer Parker was third in 28.04 seconds.

Fayetteville-Manlius, who has home meets at Cazenovia College’s pool, used that facility to earn a breakthrough season-opening victory last Thursday night, holding off the Baldwinsville Bees in a 92-85 decision.
The Hornets aimed to pile up points early, and did so, starting with the 200 medley relay, where Addie Antshel, Michelle Sipple, Grace Bang and Cara Campell finished in 2:02.90, just ahead of B’ville’s 2:03.78.
Antshel would go on to win two individual races, holding off the Bees’Grace Skapura, 2:31.57 to 2:32.73, in the 200 IM and also claiming the 100 butterfly in 1:10.59 with Emma Reed (1:11.30) in the runner-up spot.
