Back by popular demand, this year’s hands-on workshop will help build the Art Park’s 25th Anniversary Wall
Stone Quarry Hill Art Park will offer the opportunity to learn the skill of dry stone wall building again this fall, after a successful Stone Wall Building Workshop last July. The workshop will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2. Participants will work with certified instructors Jared Flynn and Michael Murphy, who travel from Vermont to be a part of this project.
During the workshop, participants will learn how to select and stack stones for wall integrity and appearance. This workshop is intended to prepare participants with the skills needed to replicate dry stone wall building in their personal or professional practices.
Participants in this year’s workshop will once again help construct a wall at the entrance of the Art Park, but this year’s project has special meaning as 2016 marks the 25th Anniversary of Stone Quarry Hill Art Park and Art Park founder Dorothy Riester’s 100th birthday.
“The public really came out to support the first workshop and this year we want it to be even bigger,” said Emily Zaengle, Executive Director of the Art Park. “This is the Art Park’s Anniversary Wall, it’s a learning experience and a celebration.”
The workshop runs Saturday and Sunday, October 1 to 2, for eight hours each day. All tools, materials and food will be provided. The cost of the workshop is $350 for non-members, $325 for Art Park members, and $75 for last year’s participants. Scholarships are available. Registration is limited.
