Two members of the East Syracuse-Minoa Key Club recently received scholarships from East Syracuse Kiwanis Club.
The Kiwanis Club scholarship recipients were Key Club President Anson Cheng and Key Club Vice President Olivia Wilson.
Cheng was also an active member of Three Steps Forward an ESM High School charitable organization. He will be attending University of Rochester.
Wilson also volunteered with Three Steps Forward and also has volunteered for the past 10 summers at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic. She will be attending Dusquesne University in the fall studying in the PharmD program.
Both students plan to join the Circle K club at their colleges, which is the College age branch of Kiwanis international to continue their service work while in college.
The Key Club, which is affiliated with Kiwanis Club International, participates in school and community related service projects and fundraisers. The ESM Key Club was very active this year, according to advisor Stevi Wilson. The club did biweekly sandwich preparation at club meetings for the Samaritan center, which they delivered; volunteered with Eastern Farm Workers organization; did a Halloween costume drive for the children of the farm workers and a trick or treat for food drive for them and hosted a holiday party at the ESM High School for the children.
The Key Club students also collected hygiene items and made hygiene bags for the homeless and delivered them to the homeless in the city of Syracuse; served meals at the Samaritan center as a club; volunteered at the Ronald McDonald house fashion show and at Mano’s bilingual preschool. They will also be volunteering this August at Tillie’s touch annual backpack /school supply giveaway in East Syracuse.
