Life-long Marcellus resident, Florence (Corp) Pottinger, 92, passed away at home surrounded by family and friends. Florence was predeceased by her parents, Carrie and Melville Corp, brothers, Bob, Mel and Joe Corp, sisters, Mary Corp and Betty Foster, niece, Gwen Foster, nephews, Joe and Bob Corp, and her dear aunt, Lovina Matteson.
She is survived by daughters, Carriebeth Pottinger and Kathy (Jeff) Smiley, granddaughters, Stacey (Dave) Chesterman and Storey (Dusten) Snyder, four great-grandchildren, Joe and Olivia Chesterman and Lydia and Andrew Snyder, brother-in-law, Glenn Foster, niece, Pat Corp, nephews, Len (Nancy) Foster and John Corp, and her very special friend, Shiela Haney.
During the Vietnam War, Florence was active with the USO in Syracuse and Remember our Troops in Marcellus, sending packages to our soldiers and supplying support through cards and letters. She and her longtime friend Lois Clay ran “The Fountain” a fun place in Marcellus for youth to go. She was leader of Carriebeth’s Senior Girl Scout troop, corresponding secretary of the Marcellus Loan Closet, and a member of the Marcellus Historical Society. In 1986, she retired from Pass and Seymour – LeGrand in Solvay.
Calling hours: at Ryan Funeral Home in Marcellus from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday July 31, followed by a brief service at the funeral home.
