Still plenty to do in Marcellus this summer

It’s not too late! Days are flying by and many people are looking to the Parks and Recreation department in the town of Marcellus for summer activities for kids, adults, or the entire family as we quickly accelerate to the end of July and beginning of August.
We still have openings in the following camps.
Tennis Camp $50 per week from Aug. 1 to 4 for grades one through 12.
For children entering grades one through four their lessons will be 9 to 10 a.m., grades five through eight from 10 to 11 a.m. and the older children entering grades nine through 12 have lessons at 11 to noon.
Ryan Thayer, Marcellus Varsity Tennis Coach, and certified staff will focus on refining strokes and footwork, serving, returning, and volleying at Marcellus Park Tennis Courts. Please bring your own racket!
ER Lacrosse Camp is for boys and girls ages four to eight from Aug. 1 to 5, Monday through Friday from 3 to 4 p.m.
ER Lacrosse Staff will introduce your child(ren) to the game of lacrosse. All drills are done with a soft lacrosse ball in a fun and exciting manner. The $65 fee includes your choice of either a Warrior Lacrosse stick OR an ER Lacrosse jersey, two balls and a gift from ER Lacrosse. It’s $45 fee if you have your own stick, and still includes 2 balls and a gift. This camp meets by the Creek Hollow Pavilion in Marcellus Park.
Boys Pre-Season Soccer Camp on Aug. 1 to 4, Monday through Thursday is $40. Offered for boys entering grades six through 11, they will train and play games to build a community within the boys’ soccer team and focus on tournament play. Practices are from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Turf field at the High School. Players will be mixed and seniors will take leadership roles. Please bring a ball and a water bottle. This program is open to all boys that are interested in trying out for soccer.
Amberations’ is hosting an outdoor adventure camp called “Amberations’ Summer Odyssey Camp” from Aug. 1 to 4, Monday through Thursday for children entering grades four to six.
For fee of $190, children will spend all day on a 50 acre site in Marietta with woods, fields, trails, streams, wildlife, and a small family of farm animals. Campers will participate in fun and safe outdoor activities under the expert guidance of professional staff.
Activities will include hiking, animal visits, fort building, games, gardening, boat building and sand sculpting. Bring a bag lunch, water bottle, and sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes for hiking. Also bring waters shoes or old sneakers for stream exploration! This camp will be held at Amberations’2223 Amber Road (adjacent to the Otisco Lake Community Center) from 10 to 4 p.m.
Thunder Canyon is performing as a part of our Summer Sensations Concert Series on July 21. Other bands such as Letizia, Tangled Roots and Joe Whiting are scheduled to play during the summer as well. Concerts that get cancelled due to inclement weather will be rescheduled for the following Monday. All concerts are on Thursday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Annex Pavilion. They are free and appropriate for the whole family! The Friends of Marcellus Park will have food and beverages available for purchase. Redhouse Musical Theater Camp with Town of Marcellus Parks and Recreation present Disney’s” The Jungle Book Kids!” Redhouse and Marcellus Parks and Recreation partnered together to offer a month-long drama and music camp that immersed students in the exciting work of theatre and the building blocks of performance.
The full-length production of Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids will be showcased on the Driver Middle School auditorium stage on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 7 p.m. There is a $2 donation for adults and kids 12 and under are free. In addition, the Marcellus Community Band, directed by Josh Nightingale, has been working long and hard all summer to prepare for a marvelous concert.
The final performance will be held Wednesday, July 27 at 7 p.m. in the Driver Middle School Auditorium.
