To the editor:
Today, I walked to my mailbox, opened it, and inside saw a political postcard with Jim Rosier’s name on it. To say I was surprised is an understatement. The postcard caught me off guard because I knew Jim had not mailed out any cards. Then, I turned the card over . . . and saw the allegations made against Jim by an opponent running for the village trustee position.
I have lived in the Liverpool community for more than 40 years, and in the village for 26 years. One thing that has always impressed me about Liverpool is how positive and professional most candidates have been when running for local office.
Rather than participating in negative campaigning, strong candidates have focused on the positive. They explain what they bring to the table, present their qualifications and accomplishments and state what they hope to achieve, if elected. There will always be others, however, who prefer to “sling mud” and who attack the reputations of their fellow candidates. Typically, they do so to deflect from the truth, which is their own limited qualifications, lack of experience and/or personal agendas in running for office.
For anyone who knows Jim Rosier, you know he is an easygoing, hard-working man of integrity. He is not political. He is not a grandstander. He listens more than he speaks. He thoroughly researches topics before voting, so he can make informed decisions. What Jim Rosier does not do is attack others, circulate untruths or create controversy for controversy’s sake.
I know that by the time this letter is published, the election will be over, and Jim will have won — or lost — his seat on the Village Board. No matter what happens, though, it is important for people to know the real Jim Rosier . . . a man who has a well-earned reputation for being honest, hardworking and conscientious . . . a man who has worked diligently as village trustee for 14 years for the residents of this village.
If you are wondering how I know so much about Jim, it is because I have been married to him for 36 years. Can I be completely objective? Probably not — but I encourage you to do just one thing, if you do not know Jim. Ask anyone with whom he has worked, in any capacity, if I have characterized him accurately here.
I hope people voted for Jim, but if they did not, they need to know the truth about the person for whom they did not vote. Look at Jim’s record over the past 14 years. Is that the same person depicted on those postcards? I think not.
