Big contrasts were found in the Skaneateles boys tennis team’s 3-2 loss to Christian Brothers Academy in last Tuesday afternoon’s OHSL Liberty division showdown at Austin Park.
The Lakers won both of the doubles matches, starting with Ryan Bailey and Matt Benson defeating Tommy Daviau and Geoff Parkes 6-1, 6-3 and continuing with Malcolm Lombardi and Anthony Panasci handling Milan Gupta and Shivam Navaroti 7-5, 6-2.
Skaneateles did not get close in any of the singles matches, though, against CBA’s power trio. Max Hall had a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Ben Vlassis, with Connor Jones falling to Dean Vlassis 6-0, 6-1 and Ethan Weldon running into Jameson Keppeler and taking a 6-1, 6-1 defeat.
The Lakers did prevail on Wednesday, though, handling Manlius-Pebble Hill 4-1 as, in doubles, the teams of Bailey-Benson and Lombardi-Panisci easily prevailing in straight sets. And though Luca Kunz lost, 6-0, 6-0, to Trilok Reddy, Skaneateles countered with Connor Driscoll beating Charlie Mann 6-2, 6-2 and Dan Judge beating Keerthyi Martyn 6-0, 6-4.
This week will bring the start of the Section III playoffs, with team tournaments taking place on Thursday and individual tournaments to follow.
