Be the Church- Change the World Sunday
On Sunday, May 15, the members of the Skaneateles United Methodist Church will gather for a brief prayer and praise service at 9 am (an hour earlier than usual) and then move out into the Central New York community to be the change they want to see in the world. People from the community are welcome to participate in the morning; they can choose to join any of the following mission and outreach projects. Opportunities include: Cleaning up litter from the municipal lot and the surrounding block; Preparing and serving a meal for Brown Memorial UMC’s community meal (the meal will be cooked in Skaneateles in the morning, those wishing to serve the meal in the afternoon will need to travel to Brown Memorial UMC on S. Geddes St, Syracuse); Working at the Matthew 25 Farm in Vesper (which provides free produce to food pantries throughout Onondaga and Cortland Counties); Making sandwiches for Chapel House residents in Auburn; Addressing invitations to the Senior Adults in the community for the Annual Strawberry Social (to be held June 12); and Participating in a Prayer Walk throughout the village. People of all ages are welcome to participate; nursery care will be provided for children under 3 years of age.
This is a way for the congregation to give back to the community and to live out their mission of being Christ’s love to their neighbors and to God’s creation. There is no need for community residents to “pre-register” to be part of a project; but persons having specific questions about any of these missions may call the church office at 685-5963 weekdays between 9am- 1pm.
