Eleven Christian Brothers Academy students were recently named Junior and Senior High-All County for chorus, band and orchestra.
Selected Junior High All-County were: Will Bianchi and Maya Geiss for chorus; Talia Zames for band; and Michael Geiss, Chloe Daino and Ayo Oguntola for orchestra.
Selected Senior High All-County were: Maggie Lenkiewicz, Dana Tuohey and Ethan Tanguay for chorus; and Geoffrey Parkes and Hannah Kang for orchestra.
The Jr. and Sr. High All-County students auditioned against musicians from every school in the county. They each performed two prepared excerpts of music, as well as tested on playing musical scales, followed by a sight reading piece that they have never seen before. The top musicians on each instrument and voice were selected to participate in the All-County Festival in either chorus, band or orchestra. The Sr. High Festival was held at Marcellus High School on Jan. 8 to 9. The Jr. High festival was held at Skaneateles High School Jan. 22 to 23.
Parkes and Lenkiewicz recently participated in the Area All-State festival which was held in Storer Auditorium on the campus of Ithaca College. These two talented musicians were selected for their ensemble (Parkes in the orchestra and Lenkiewicz in the women’s choir) based on their results at last year’s NYSSMA festival (New York State School Music Association…the governing body for school music in New York State).
Unlike the All-County festival which only includes students from Onondaga County, the Area All-State festival includes students in Zone 3 in New York, which is St. Lawrence County all the way down to the Binghamton area. Acceptance into this festival is highly competitive and only the top band, orchestra and chorus students in that large area are selected.
