After Certified Public Accountant Mike Koagel passed away Aug. 24 at his Syracuse home, his accounting firm partner, Donald Vincentini, decided to cut back on his work load.
That decision left two longtime clients of Koagel & Vincentini CPAs — the villages of Liverpool and North Syracuse — looking for new auditors.
Last week, trustees in both villages voted to hire The Bonadio Group to take over for Koagel & Vincentini CPAs.
At its Sept. 21 meeting, the Liverpool Village Board authorized Mayor Gary White to sign an engagement letter hiring Bonadio for a total service fee of $14,000 for an annual financial report, often called a review.
“Koagel & Vincentini have been our auditors for many years,” White said, “but since Mike died, Don’s scaling back so we’re looking forward to working with Bonadio.”
White’s considering assigning the CPA firm to conduct a full audit — far more thorough than a review — for the village sometime next year, he said, “after we’ve both reached a level of comfort with each other.”
At their meeting on Sept., 24, the North Syracuse trustees authorized Mayor Gary Butterfield to sign a letter engaging the services of Bonadio. Koagel & Vincentini had worked for North Syracuse for 13 years. The North Syracuse village trustees agreed to Bonadio’s $11,750 fee, plus another $2,000 for an audit of the village court system.
With offices in New York state and Vermont, The Bonadio Group provides financial and accounting services. The group has 10 offices across New York state and one in Rutland, Vt. Bonadio has two offices in Syracuse, one on Solar Street and one in Franklin Square.
An alumnus of Le Moyne College, Michael Koagel died last month at age 71. Koagel had been an accountant for 50 years and was a partner at Koagel & Vincentini CPAs.
Police stats for August
