The Cazenovia Village Board on Aug. 3 held a public information session to discuss the proposed plan for the nature trail and development options behind the Cazenovia Public Library as part of the Creekside Planned Development District. Part of that plan includes the construction of a “linear park” along the creek that will be a play space for children.
Mayor Kurt Wheeler said the village will begin doing some initial site work on park soon, such as removing old gravel/asphalt, spreading out topsoil, removing weeds and other actions. The board is considering holding another public information session when the site is ready to add the play area, Wheeler said.
The board also scheduled a public hearing for its September meeting to discuss reducing the speed limit on Riverside Drive to 25 miles per hour for the safety of walkers.
Wheeler said the “big picture” for the Creekside area is that this plan lays out the community’s vision for potential development of the area and any prospective developer has to fit within that plan.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the creation of five new 15-minute parking spaces along Albany Street: two in front of Kinney Drugs and three in front of AmeriCU/BG Buda. The new 15-minute parking spaces would be in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The intent of creating the new spots is to give shoppers the ability to find a convenient space to park while they run quick errands downtown, the board has said.
The rationale for choosing those four spaces to change from two-hour to 15-minute parking is that they are easy to pull into and out of during heavy traffic periods, they are just past the main business district block and they are near banks, which is a typical quick stop for people, Wheeler said.
