One more bit of regular-season action remained for the Baldwinsville track and field teams before league and Section III Class AA championships would get decided.
The Bees met its neighbors from Liverpool last Wednesday afternoon at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium and lost on both sides, taking a 91-50 defeat to the Warriors in the girls meet and, on the boys side, falling by a 97-44 margin.
During that boys meet, Ethan Plouffe did sweep the throwing events for B’ville, unleashing a top discus throw of 117 feet 6 inches and claiming the shot put by heaving it 38’2”.
Sam Smith was first in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.7, with Evan Donhauser taking the 110 high hurdles in 15.5 seconds. But the Warriors won every other event, including Brandon Mayfield taking the 100-meter dash (11.3 seconds), 200-meter dash (23.9 seconds) and long jump (18’9”).
Two of the three wins for B’ville’s girls side came in field events. Hailey Couchman unleashed a top long jump of 14 feet 6 ½ inches, while Haleigh Jaquint went 33’1” in the triple jump. On the oval, Rebecca Lawrence prevailed in the 200-meter dash in 27.3 seconds.
Otherwise, Liverpool controlled matters, seeing Juliana Basla sweep the 800 (2:23.4), 1,500 (4:56.2) and 3,000 (11:07.6) meter runs to lead her side.
But the girls Bees would find some success Friday in the Tully Friday Night Invitational.
Sarah Rodman got third place in the 800-meter run in 2:33.37, just before Tina Bartelli took third (1:01.71) in the 400-meter dash. Claire McMahon went 5:17.68 in the 1,500-meter run, making her way to fifth place.
Laura Kick took fifth place in the 100 sprint in 13.91 seconds. Jaquint was seventh in the 100 hurdles in 18.21 seconds, with Destinee Luciano eighth in the 400 hurdles and Anna Demer ninth in the 200-meter dash. Jessica Lioy tied for seventh in the pole vault and Anna Miller was seventh in the shot put and discus.
B’ville will get to host both the boys and girls CNY Counties League National division championships this Thursday afternoon.
