Good news for bus riders in Manlius. The Central New York Regional Transportation Authority (Centro) has announced they will not eliminate their midday bus service to Manlius.
In February, Centro announced that due to a projected $5 million deficit in the upcoming fiscal year, that they were considering changes to their services. These proposed changes included elimination of the 462 midday service to Manlius, reduction of service hours on weeknights and Saturdays from the Syracuse Hub, elimination of service on Sundays and holidays and restructuring the multi-ride fare media pass program.
Initially, the company planned to implement these changes in April 2015, but was met with a strong opposition by residents in the Syracuse area.
According to a statement by the company released on April 24, “Following the securement of sufficient state funding to avoid originally proposed substantial reductions in Centro transit services, previous proposals to discontinue weeknight, Saturday night, holiday and Sunday night bus services have all been dropped.”
The press release goes on to say some changes were voted on by the Centro Board of Members, which included adjustments to the discount fare programs and discontinuing seven and 30-day unlimited passes. Centro said that all single fare ride prices will remain unchanged.
“I received a press release from Centro that said they will not implement the changes and fares will be unchanged,” said Manlius Mayor Paul Whorrall at the May 12 meeting of the Manlius Village Board. “So that’s a good thing for our residents.”
