With the post-season looming, each of the Skaneateles track and field teams both wanted to make strong statements – and did so in Thursday’s meet against Jordan-Elbridge.
On the girls side, the Lakers rolled past the Eagles 104.5-36.5, displaying its depth by having plenty of individual winners, with only Maddie Peterson and Makayla Dickensen winning twice.
Peterson was first in the 200-meter dash in 27.2 seconds and rolled through the 400-meter dash in exactly 59 seconds. She also helped Mia Grasso, Cecilia Marrinan and Shannan Roberts prevail in the 4×400 relay in 4:29.8.
Dickensen swept the throwing events, heaving the shot put 24 feet 4 inches and the discus 71’5”, while Keely Gregg cleared 7 feet in the pole vault and Angela Krause had a 31-foot triple jump. Grasso and J-E’s Julie Hines both topped 4’10” in the high jump.
Grasso’s lone individual victory came in the 400-meter hurdles, which she claimed in a swift 1:06.7, this after Laurel Parker rolled to first place in the 100-meter dash in 13.1 seconds. Parker, Krause, Katelyn Ellison and Amanda Wetmore ran the 4×100 relay in 50.9 seconds.
Julia Willcox needed 5:05.3 to prevail at 1,500 meters before Kaitlyn Neal went 10:28.9 in the 3,000-meter run. The meet had started with Grasso pairing with Finan Malcolm, Liz Dwyer and Natalie Condon to win the 4×800 relay in 10:16.4.
Though the boys meet between Skaneateles and J-E was a lot closer, the Lakers, helped by a sprint sweep and wins in two of the three relays, turned back the Eagles 78-63.
Connor Hill began that sprint effort when he ran the 100 in 11.5 seconds, half a second ahead of teammate Zach Blair (12.0 seconds), and then added a 200-meter title in 23.1 seconds. Cooper Watt beat out J-E’s Ethan Kinney, 54.0 seconds to 54.4, in the 400 sprint.
Griffin Lawson not only beat the Eagles’ Russell Hines in the 800, 2:04.2 to Hines’ 2:06 flat, he also teamed with Hill, Watt and James Hackler to win the 4×400 relay in 3:50.9. Earlier in the meet, that same quartet got first place in the 4×800 relay in 8:23.2.
Max Messie and Tommy Hagen both ran the 400 hurdles in 1:02 flat, sharing first place. Dalton Carter, in the pole vault, cleared 9’6” to win there as Andrew Weiss had a top long jump of 19’ ½”.
Both of the Skaneateles sides head to Fulton Monday for the OHSL Liberty division championship meet.
