This year’s town of Nelson Skunk Hollow Day has been scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the town office – only a few hours after the annual Mad. Co.W Race concludes at the same location.
Fay Lyons, who coordinates the Skunk Hollow Day events, has been speaking with Richard Benner, who coordinates the Mad. CoW Race, and they both agreed that holding both events on the same day may help encourage more participants to both, Town Supervisor Roger Bradstreet said during the town board’s March 12 regular monthly meeting.
The town baseball game — Nelson versus Fenner — is scheduled for 1 p.m. on the ball field behind the town office, there will also be games, an ice cream social, antique vehicles, town history and information and displays by local businesses. A free concert has been scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Nelson Odeon.
Skunk Hollow Day is hosted and organized by the Nelson United Methodist Church. For more information or to inquire about participation in the event, contact Fay Lyon at 655-8045.
The event will be open to all in the Nelson area.
The annual Mad. Co.W 5K Race, a Route 20 Road Challenge Event sponsored by the In Your Pace Running Club, will start at 9 a.m. at the town office. The 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk will take participants through the heart of cow country in the Nelson dairy region. Race proceeds are donated to Community Action Partnership, a local non-profit that helps individuals and families in Madison County become and remain self-sufficient.
