There are two ways to look at the long quiet period the Baldwinsville ice hockey team enjoys right now in the wake of a 14-4-2 regular season that ended with a Division I National Conference title and a top seed for the Section III playoffs.
On the good side, the Bees certainly welcomed a chance to get away from game action for more than a week, resting and recuperating and, in some cases, giving injured players a chance to heal.
On the bad side, though, B’ville was on a roll, having won seven straight games since falling to Rochester McQuaid on Jan. 17, and may not have wanted to ease up for any length of time.
That seventh consecutive victory was notched last Tuesday night, at Lysander, where the Bees cruised past the Mohawk Valley Raiders 8-3.
Led by forwards Joe Glamos and Matt Abbott, B’ville gained early control, leading 3-0 through one period. Though Mohawk Valley did get on the board in the second period, the Bees’ margin extended to 6-1, and it never got caught, despite the Raiders’ Tim Filhan managing two goals and an assist.
Glamos had a three-goal hat trick, adding a pair of assists, with Abbott scoring twice and also getting a pair of assists. Adam Tretowicz and Isaiah Pompo also had two assists.
Kyle Lindsay recorded one goal and one assist as James Pelcher and Andy Rossler earned the other goals. Matt Monaco and Charlie McAllister also had assists. Matt Sabourin gained 18 saves.
B’ville will host Watertown IHC on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., kicking off the sectional tournament. All of the other first-round games are later in the week, and a Bees win could mean a home semifinal against seven-time defending champion West Genesee if the Wildcats get past Liverpool Saturday night at Shove Park.
