A Liverpool High School student has been arrested after assaulting another student Thursday morning, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department.
Around 7:15 a.m., a fight broke out between two students in the LHS cafeteria. During the altercation, one of the students produced a knife and cut the other student. School security and administrators then broke up the fight and took the weapon.
A 16-year-old male from Liverpool is now facing charges of assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Eagle Newspapers does not identify minors charged with crimes. The student was arraigned in Salina Town Court by Judge Andrew Piraino, who remanded him to the Onondaga County Justice Center on bail set at $20,000 cash or bond. He is scheduled to appear in Clay Town Court on Feb. 10.
According to the sheriff’s department, the fight started over “name calling.” The victim suffered a superficial laceration to his abdomen and returned to class. School officials are investigating the incident
