The Manlius Town Board decided last week that town residents who live in industrial zones will no longer be required to pay the $100 fee to renew their special use permit to have their property in an industrial zone.
The change came about after the board, at its Jan. 14 regular meeting, approved a special use permit for a resident living in an industrial zone to build a residential garage on his property.
Under current town law, after receiving an initial special permit for a parcel of property, owners are required to renew their permit every seven years. Town Clerk Allison Edsall told the board there has previously been discussions regarding the idea of waiving the $100 fee because residents are not running a business.
Board members agreed that in the future fees for such special use permits renewals would be waived during the review process.
When the residential property owner is applying to renew their permit, they will still have to go in front of the town board, they will just not have to pay the $100 fee, said Town Supervisor Ed Theobald.
Also at the meeting, the board:
—Heard plans from the owners of Shining Star Daycare Center’s Manlius location for changes to their business located on the corner of Enders Road and Route 92. At the meeting, the legal representative for the business said the owners plan on demolishing the existing building and building a larger building on the north side of the property to expand the business. To do this, they would have to request a zone change from residential multiple use in the front and restricted agriculture in the rear to commercial district in the front and residential multiple use in the rear.
Town board member John Leoffler said he was concerned about the possibility of the zone change because when the board was reviewing that area, there was a planned limitation of commercial districts in the area.
“About five or six years ago, there was an overall desire to not go further in development in that area,” Loeffler said.
Shining Star Daycare will review their plans for expanding the business in a way that will fit with the usage of the area, according to the Shining Stars representative.
—Heard an update about the fire station project that is being developed by the village of Manlius and is located on the corner of Enders Road and Route 92.
Town board member Vincent Giordano gave copies of the information about the project that was created by the village of Manlius. He said they will be putting the information on the town website and that the village plans to also put it on its website.
The information includes plans for the new fire station, the dates of the public meetings about the project and the fire district zones that are in the town and village of Manlius.
Loeffler said he was concerned that the information presented was more of an advocacy document rather than an informational document.
“We need to post it right,” Loeffler said.
The board agreed they would review the information and make any changes needed at the next meeting.
—Approved the supervisor to sign a waste flow control contract with Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency(OCRRA) for the town of Manlius contracted haulers to bring waste to the OCRRA facility.
