No one in the Onondaga High School League’s Liberty division was able to get close to challenging the Skaneateles girls tennis team in nine league matches.
Against the same Westhill team it shut out on Sept. 5, the Lakers did the exact same thing last Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the Warriors 7-0.
In first singles, Katelyn Ellison rolled past Katherine Missert 6-1, 6-0. In a similar match, Olivia Gage handled Katie DeVeyra 6-1, 6-1, with Louisa Morrow worked a bit longer, but still had a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alyssa Wall.
Makenzie Herbst and Grace Magee began the doubles domination with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cameron Aiello and Abbey Mullen, followed by Liz Belinski and Angela Krause taking two sets to dismiss Mackenzie Aiello and Lydia Stevenson 6-1, 6-0.
None of the Skaneateles doubles teams lost more than two games in any single set. In fact, Erica Byrne and Julia Torrisi would shut out Meaghen Burrows and Hannah Lesselroth 6-0, 6-0, while Maura McNeil and Maddy Pinkney eased past Anna Frost and Rachel Zeppetello 6-2, 6-0.
This unbeaten mark meant that Skaneateles would gain the top seed for the Section III Class C team tournament and a first-round bye, where it would await no. 9 seed Cazenovia in Monday’s quarterfinals after those other Lakers edged Bishop Grimes 4-3 in last Friday’s opening round.
A Skaneateles win would mean a trip to Wednesday’s semifinals against no. 4 seed Manlius-Pebble Hill or no. 5 seed Watertown IHC, with the championship round on Thursday afternoon.
