Central New York educators can take advantage of courses designed to help them implement the Common Core curriculum at OCM BOCES next week.
From 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 27 and 28, educators in the Syracuse area can attend Discovery Education’s Common Core Academies at BOCES’ Central New York Regional Information Center, 6075 East Molloy Road, Syracuse. The courses will be lead by Common Core state standards expert Dr. Karen Beerer and hosted by Discovery Education, a content provider that offers digital textbooks and multimedia content that support Common Core implementation.
The free professional development sessions will allow teachers and administrators to learn practical instructional strategies they can immediately implement for using digital media and other educational technologies to support the integration of the Common Core State Standards into classroom instruction.
The sessions are as follows:
Literacy and the Common Core in a Digital World (Thursday, March 27): This session offers participants English Language Arts (ELA) instruction and assessment strategies that help develop digitally literate students prepared for college, careers, and citizenship.
Teaching and Assessing Common Core Math in a Digital World (Friday, March 28): To promote mathematical proficiency among students, attendees to this session will explore the Standards for Mathematical Practice and their successful implementation with assessment strategies.
