In between the league and Section III Class AA championship meets that it hosted, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys track and field team hosted its 14th annual invitational meet last Saturday.
And the Northstars easily made its way to the top, picking up 162 points. No one else in the 16-team field had even half that total, as Corcoran was second with 58 points and Jamesville-DeWitt (54 points) was third.
C-NS went 1-2 in the 110 high hurdles, where Morgan Austen won in 15.47 seconds and Pete Girardi (15.75 seconds) was second. They reversed the order in the 400 hurdles, with Girardi winning in 57.93 seconds and Austen (59.30 seconds) in the runner-up spot, as Austen later got second place in the triple jump with a top leap of 40’7 ¾”.
Avery Yarn dominated the 400-meter dash, as his time of 51.03 seconds was nearly a full second ahead of the field. Bryan Sibble, in a time of 2:03.18, beat Corcoran’s Jevar Carter (2:04.54) and the field to win the 800-meter run.
Anthony Lupia won the 3,200-meter run, the only one to break 10 minutes as he hit the line in 9:53.78. Neil Gill was second (10:13.39) to Seton Catholic’s Mitchell Ryan (9:52.39) in the 3,000 steeplechase. Bryan Bausinger took fourth in the mile in 4:42.07, where Colin Greenseich was seventh.
Bausinger, Sibble, Paul DeGennaro and Andrew Bearkland combined to win the 4×800 relay in 9:05.78. Yarn, Shawn Webb, Steve Mirizio and Nate Hilt prevailed in the 4×100 relay in 45.83 seconds, and C-NS completed the relay sweep in the 4×400 as Sibble, Webb, Evan Russell and Jeremy Rivera finished in 3:42.99.
Webb, in 23.45 seconds, got second place to Jordan-Elbridge’s Dylan Whittico (23.09 seconds) in the 200-meter dash. Jalen Jenkins took fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.55 seconds, with Mark Broughton (11.78 seconds) fifth.
Joe Castaldo earned second place in the shot put (46 feet ½ inch) behind Phoenix’s Jason Czyz (47’3”), while adding a third in the discus (127’7”) as Czyz (134’1”) won that event, too.
Tate LaPorte, clearing 11 feet, and Connor Osborne (10’6”) were second and third, respectively, in the pole vault. George Reader got fifth place in the high jump, topping 5’8” with fewer misses than Marcus Banister, who was sixth.
