In order for the Baldwinsville ice hockey team to fully capitalize on its big 2-0 shutout of then-state no. 3-ranked Rochester McQuaid on Jan. 5, it had to follow it up with more top performances – which it did, twice, to extend its win streak to four games.
The Bees had a particular amount of fun in last Tuesday night’s trip to Ontario Bay. Putting together the highest goal total of any Section III team this winter, the Bees smashed the Storm 16-3.
Half of those tallies came in the first period, B’ville converting as will as it gained an 8-1 lead. Following a “quiet” second period where it only scored twice, the Bees added six more in the third period for its big margin.
Parker Ferrigan led with four goals, while Matt Herman earned his own three-goal hat trick. Passes came from Ronnie May and Ronnie Bertrand, who had four assists apiece.
Matt Abbott and Garth Gray each had two goals and one assist, with Garrett Gray and Matt Zandri both getting one goal and two assists. James Pelcher added a goal as Luke McCaffrey picked up two assists. Mike Schneid and Truman Strodel had two assists apiece.
It figured to be tougher for the Bees when it played its third straight road game at Ithaca on Thursday, and the goal total dropped by 75 percent – but it still was plenty as B’ville leaned on its defense to deliver a 4-1 victory over the Little Red.
Staying in top form, Ferrigan scored twice, adding an assist. Garrett Gray put up a goal and two assists, while David Mazurkiewicz also found the net. Zandri matched Gray’s total of two assists as Bertrand also earned an assist.
All of this leads to the Bees’ trip to Kennedy Arena Tuesday night to face state no. 2-ranked Rome Free Academy, who started 12-0 before a 4-3 overtime defeat to Massena on Saturday. This is the Bees’ fourth straight road game before it returns to Lysander Friday night for a game against Watertown IHC.
