A number of friendly scarecrows, created by Cazenovia High School art students, were visible throughout the Historic Cazenovia Business District from Oct. 25 to 31 as part of the First Annual Scarecrow Fest.
Coordinated by the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by local businesses and community members, a panel of judges viewed the entries on Oct. 27 and awarded prizes for the top scarecrows.
Area residents were encouraged to vote for their favorite, using orange ballots in all the area businesses, and the People’s Choice Award, which includes a family portrait session at Gene Gissin Photography, was announced on Oct. 31. The winners of the First Annual Scarecrow Fest are:
—First place: “Mechanic Scarecrow” by Riley Ramsden and Elliot Mitchell
—Second place: “Florist Scarecrow” by Gillian Brod and Malone Gabor
—Second place: “Artist Scarecrow” by Natalie Roszel and Samantha Fox
—Third place: “Children Scarecrows Waiting for the Bus” by Zac Cali and Max Schaffner
The first-place winners will receive a $50 gift certificate from the GCACC. To account for a tie, both second place entries received a $35 gift certificate, and the third-place entry was awarded a $25 gift certificate.
Chamber representatives said that they hope to expand the contest next year and include community members’ entries.
The GCACC would like to thank Bill Paben, Barbara Bartlett, Bob Slodowitz, Jennifer Schutzendorf, Isabella, Gene Gissin, Tizzy’s and Lavender Blue, as well as the three judges, Bob Winston and John Hunter of J.D. Hunter Home and Jennifer Schutzendorf of The Gallery of CNY.
