Local cross country fans saw Cazenovia and Chittenango get together once more last Wednesday afternoon in the Madison County Meet at the Sean Googin Sports Complex, where the girls Lakers prevailed by a score of 18-45 and the boys Bears won 21-37.
Going 1-2 among individuals, Cazenovia saw Jeannette Cudney win the race in 19 minutes, 37 seconds, the only sub-20-minute effort, while Megan Stanford finished second in 20:18.
Chittenango’s Anna Galbraith just missed on that runner-up spot, settling for third place in 20:23, five seconds behind Stanford, but that was the Bears’ lone finish among the top eight.
Malone Gabor gave the Lakers a fourth-place finish in 20:52, while Mimi Gabor (21:22) and Adrien Owens (21:50) took fifth and sixth, respectively. Just behind them, Mya Walters earned seventh place in 21:58 as Margaret Wolsey, in 22:221, earned eighth place. The Bears’ Kaitlyn Janczuk and Hayley Foran both finished in 23:02.
During that boys race, it was Cazenovia’s Sean Satchwell working his way to the top spot, finishing in 17 minutes, 26 seconds, well clear of Chittenango’s Isaac Czarnecki, who was second in 17:48.
But the Bears occupied the rest of the top five as Lucas Rogers took third in 18:13, Kenny Galbraith was fourth (18:16) and Jon Roberts was fifth in 18:19.
Kevin Ridings, the Lakers’ best runner behind Satchwell, finished sixth in 18:28, while Matt Mistur was ninth in 19:08 and Joe Zambito (19:28) got to 10th place. In between them, Chittenango’s Jacob Teeter was eighth, in 18:55, and Ben Seale was eighth in 19:06.
Chittenango hosted its own invitational meet on Saturday at Jamesville Beach Park, finishing sixth in the girls Varsity 2 (large school) race as Janczuk, in 22nd place (21:14.8) and Bunce, in 32nd place (21:56.5), led the way.
Czarnecki was 35th (18:14.4) and Rogers took 41st (18:26.1) in the boys Varsity 2 race, where the Bears were seventh out of 12 teams. Roberts was 50th (18:42.6), one spot ahead of Galbraith (18:44.1) in 51st place.
