The second time around proved more successful for the Skaneateles girls tennis team.
A rematch with OHSL Liberty division leader Cazenovia last Wednesday afternoon was just as competitive as the first Laker clash, but in this case Skaneateles, fueled by strong doubles play, prevailed by a score of 4-3.
It started with Avery Bird and Laura McNeil rolling past Rebecca Marsch and Natalie Roszel 6-2, 6-1, followed by Liz Belinski and Angela Krouse gaining a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory over Claire Chanatry and Grace Gara.
The pivotal point came in first doubles. After losing a first-set tie-breaker, Kathryn and Grace Magee rallied against Edie Connor and Sally Langan and, pulling out a tight third set, won the point in a 6-7 (7-2), 6-4, 7-5 decision. Bailey Parson and Maddy Pinkney took the only doubles blemish, a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Ava Gurney and Vivian Wilt.
Skaneateles got just one point in singles, as Katelyn Ellison took out Sienna Lints 6-1, 6-3. Makenzi Herbst went to a third-set tie-breaker in a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) defeat to Elizabeth Lane, while Olivia Gage lost to Kelly Furlong 6-2, 6-4.
