Nearing the post-season, the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team was in good form, as evidenced by its 8-7 win over then-unbeaten Penn Yan on May 5.
Three nights and plenty of rain later, it was back to league play, as the Bees went to Oswego and endured the mud with calm clarity, defeating the Buccaneers 9-5.
Trailing 2-1 after one period, B’ville started to stir in the second quarter, jumping into a 4-3 lead by the time they reached the half.
That margin only grew in the latter stages as Steve Petrelli, with three goals and two assists, anchored the attack. Joe Delia produced three assists as Luke Evans scored twice.
Pat Colligan, Ben Paprocki, Ronnie May and Connor Chapman landed single goals, all supported by a fierce defense that blanked Oswego in the fourth quarter and saw goalie Parker Ferrigan record 20 saves.
Back home at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium Thursday night, B’ville rolled past Corcoran 13-4, bolting out to a quick 4-0 edge in the first period. The Bees cooled off the rest of the half, but a 6-0 third-quarter outburst decided matters.
By himself, Evans outscored the Cougars by two as he finished with six goals. Both Petrelli and Delia fed him, getting four assists apiece by game’s end as Colin Gooley scored twice. Chapman had a goal and two assists as Petrelli, Paprocki, Zach Bulak and Cody Luke notched single goals.
Before Wednesday’s regular-season finale at Syracuse East, the Bees (8-6) would, on Monday, host defending state Class C champion Cazenovia, who beat B’ville 14-4 back on March 31 at Cazenovia College.
