Shawna Lake, a junior at West Genesee High School, has won the “Impressions of Syracuse” Photography Contest sponsored by Green & Seifter, Attorneys, PLLC. The winner was announced Thursday evening at a private showing of the top 20 entries held at the art gallery at the Redhouse in downtown Syracuse.
Shawna’s photo, selected from more than 150 entries submitted from 10 participating high schools in Onondaga County, captures the beauty of Syracuse’s historic architecture as reflected in the building located at 400 S. Salina St. Shawna was awarded a $500 scholarship and the winning photo will be featured on the Green & Seifter 2009 holiday card.
Wendy Cross, Shawna’s photography teacher at WG, was also presented with a $500 donation to the school’s visual arts department.
The photo contest, open to Onondaga County High School Students, was inspired by the “Turner to C (c)zanne” exhibit currently on display at the Everson Museum.
“We hoped to increase awareness about the exhibit among the youth in our community and encourage them to take advantage of the opportunity to view these incredible works of art,” said Kathy Ryan, director of marketing and public relations at Green & Seifter. “We were amazed at the level of creativity, visual perspective, and enthusiasm of the students who participated. The contest was so well received that the firm hopes to make the competition an annual event.”
