The Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce will present its 14th season of summer concerts in the park. The 2010 Oneida Savings Bank Summer Concert Series begins tonight, Thursday June 24 in Cazenovia’s Lakeland Park featuring the Cazenovia Community Band from 7 to 9 p.m. This popular summer series will run each Thursday evening through Aug. 19 with the exception of a special holiday concert on July 4, featuring three bands, followed by the community fireworks.
Cazenovia Community Band in concert June 24
Reconstituted after a year’s hiatus, the Cazenovia Community Band will perform at 7 p.m. June 24 at Lakeland Park in Cazenovia. (A rain date has been set for June 25 at Eastern Hills Bible Church in Manlius.) The band will also perform at the July 4 parade in Cazenovia.
Under the direction of Marv Arnold, the band will present a selection of favorites, marches and show tunes including “John Williams in Concert” (music from “Star Wars,” “Jaws,” etc.), Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune and Shepherd’s Hey,” Sousa’s “King Cotton” and Delibes’ “March and Procession of Bacchus.” Arnold was a music educator for Chittenango Schools for many decades. The band is comprised of approximately 40 amateur musicians from Cazenovia and surrounding communities in Central New York and strongly encourages additional members to join. No auditions are necessary and all wind band instruments are welcome. For upcoming concerts in the fall of 2010, college credit may be arranged.
