Stephen Dreher of Baldwinsville will perform with the Syracuse Opera Chorus in the company’s upcoming production of Charles Gounod’s Romeo & Juliet.
Dreher, a 62-year resident of the Syracuse area, has sung with the Opera Chorus for 33 years. Dreher began singing at age 25 and credits the sounds of popular music from the 40’s and 50’s for his appreciation of classical music and opera. Growing up he never imagined even seeing a live opera performance, let alone taking part in a fully staged production.
In addition to his work with the Opera, Dreher sings in two choruses with the Syracuse German-American Society: the Liederverein and the Gesangverein.
Romeo & Juliet, an opera in three acts, will be sung in French with projected English translations. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday March 6 and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday March 8 in the Crouse-Hinds Concert Theater of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center Theaters at Oncenter. Tickets Start at $18 and can be purchased by calling 47(OPERA) or visit syracuseopera.com.
