During its lone action of the holiday break, the Skaneateles wrestling team went to Lowville and appeared in the Lewis County Duals, taking one of five matches.
The Lakers prevailed, 39-37, over South Lewis, mainly by dominating the upper weight classes. At 285 pounds, Cooper Pitman pinned Nathan Osborne in 31 seconds, with Jake Brillo (170 pounds) taking just 39 seconds to pin Brandon Delano.
Also, Jacob Kipp (195 pounds) claimed a forfeit and, at 182 pounds, Connor Gray pinned Darrel Roser in 3:11. Up at 113 pounds, Josh Brillo took exactly three minutes to pin Justin Levinsailor.
Elsewhere, Tyler Saunders dominated at 126 pounds, beating Ryan Baslow 14-2, as Max Collier got the other forfeit at 106 pounds.
Just before that, Skaneateles lost 54-30 to Ilion, though Pitman pinned Alex Marro in 1:01 and Jake Brillo took five more seconds to finish off Darren Lincourt.
Andrew Newton joined in at 120 pounds with a pin over Dan Sportello in 2:34, with Saunders topping Tyler Brown 12-6 and Ryan Dick, at 145 pounds, beating Robert Matousek 7-1.
Skaneateles took a narrow 42-35 defeat to host Lowville, who went 5-0 to claim the team title. The Lakers also fell 51-36 to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and 52-27 to Copenhagen.
All this led the Lakers to a mid-season break, which takes up nearly two weeks. Skaneateles will practice and prepare for its next meet on Jan. 11, at Hannibal, which comes two days before a visit to Cato-Meridian.
